SIP Trunking

We live in a rapidly advancing world, new innovations and technologies are being made to make our lives better in every way. Amongst these many advanced technologies is SIP trunking. It has only recently been introduced and used in the market and up until now it has only proven beneficial to many businesses, as it is similar to a business phone system but only better.

Firstly, you need to understand what SIP trunks really are. In its base level it is almost like a traditional phone line that is wired up to a business telephone network. If you would visit an office today and use its telephone line to make a call, you will not have any idea whether your call is being made on a traditional phone line or an SIP trunk service.

The way these SIP trunks work is either as a data service over an existing DSL or a similar service in which calls are routed over the public internet or through a dedicated voice DSL service or something similar. With the latter option, an external circuit is supplied directly into the network backbone, therefore crossing any public internet traffic. And because of this latter method a better quality of service is guaranteed. Next, after connecting and installing an external data circuit, a connection needs to be made to the actual business phone system almost exactly like a traditional phone line is connected. General if you want to connect an SIP trunk to an older phone system, mainly manufactured pre-2006, then chances are you would be required to connect an SIP converter unit. The SIP converter unit is then connected to the already existing business phone line ports and the DSL SIP trunk circuit. Never the less, even business phones systems that are manufactured post-2006 may require a software upgrade, a hardware upgrade or a license key to be connected directly to the SIP trunk circuit.

There are numerous reason as to why you should opt for SIP trunking, the benefits are endless. For starts it saves a lot of money. The line rental charges and calling rates are much lower than the standard telephone line. Not only that but any and all calls made amongst the business phone line network are completely free of charge. This can be extremely handy and useful for businesses that are multi-sited. Moreover, due to this system working through DSL service, your company can retain its telephone number no matter where it moves or relocates to. Plus, in the case of a disaster, calls can easily be re-routed in an instant.

These benefits are great but they are pointless if correct installation is not done. You need to make sure that you or your SIP trunking system service provider have made correct calculations as to how much bandwidth will be available to allow the required number of constant calls to be made and or received. Another part of the installation process you need to make sure of is that whether all the correct hardware and software has been supplied, installed and configured by your SIP trunking service provider.

SIP trunking is scalable depending on bandwidth. New lines can be installed easily as long as the business has sufficient bandwidth to accommodate them. Compressed codecs will even allow for less bandwidth per call, allowing companies to expand their lines without paying for increased internet access.
